V Bowl $55

Ghost Bowl $50

Deep Sapphire $80

Dessert Wok $60

Deep Speck $65
Simply Shallow Wok $40

I'm so very excited to show off a few of my husbands concrete creations that he's been working so hard on lately, they consist of items like garden planters, coffee table bowls, garden mushrooms, etc. all made with recycled materials. I'll admit that I've contributed a little too much to the recycled glass (a.k.a my crushed up wine bottles)! ;)

I also have to admit that every time Josh pulls another from its mold I find myself snatching them up. He keeps joking that they all keep 'disappearing'! Hey, they're just so dang versatile and look great in every area of the house..I can't help myself!

Each of these shown will be available soon in the Inspired House of Wright Etsy Shop!

First Kiss {Warning: adorableness!}

I first saw this video at Melissa Jo's blog (Lady of the Flowers) and it completely made my day. How sweet is it that their first kiss was caught on camera?

P.S. I hope you have a wonderful weekend! We'll be in Atlanta for the Braves/Phillie's baseball game (woop woop!), the tix were an early anniversary present I gave to Josh for our one year wedding anniversary ( can I get another woop woop!)

Wanted: Rolled Denim Shorts

AltamiraNYC

Lately I've been wanting a cute pair of rolled denim cut-offs–and when I say cute I'm talking, good 'ole mid-thigh, NOT coochie cutters. And yes, I just said coochie cutters in my blog post because there's just no other term that can describe them and you know it. Maybe I could have said a denim diaper because half the time that's what most gals end up looking like they're wearing...

Anyhoo.

Have you seen a cute pair lately? If so, where did ya get 'em?

Alabama Tornadoes {pics via our lake condo}

Note: If you're a new reader just know that I try to not talk about serious topics because, honestly, this blog is my safe haven from all the yucky news of the world. But since the news is happening all around me I can't help but to not post about this. I'll be back to our regularly scheduled fun and inspiring topics tomorrow :)

Unless you've been living under a rock lately, you've heard that we (Alabama) got hit with an epic amount of tornadoes on April 27 (see exactly how many on this map). In fact, the government has just recently declared Alabama a category one natural disaster, which is in the same category as Katrina and 9/11.

It was a very scary night. The tornado siren went off just as we were finishing up  Modern Family and we very quickly (yet calmly) jumped into action. We were watching the radar from our computers, candles lit throughout the house, trying to keep the pups calm, staying near the hallway where we had brought in and flipped over wrought iron outdoor chairs to protect our heads. There wasn't a minute where the sky was actually dark even though it was nighttime. It looked as if there was a giant strobe light on outside and it just felt extremely eerie. Luckily, the tornado we were bracing for hit just north of us and we just had hail and wind damage.

Once place out of many that wasn't spared was Lake Martin, where our lake condo is located. Luckily, the damage wasn't that bad to our property but the pics above are a few that my mom snapped this past weekend of what used to be houses a few slough's down from ours. The tornado ended up being an EF-4 that was 44 miles long and 1/2 mile wide.

On a more humorous note, the guy sitting in what used to be his room (last pic) yelled down to mom  "Want a house? It's a bit of a fixer-upper but a few coats of paint could do wonders!"  Gotta love his optimism. So there you have it. My super serious post. Please PLEASE donate if you can. Our poor little state is shattered beyond belief :(

Our DIY Mother's Day gifts

Hopefully our mothers listened when we told them not to read today's post because I wanted to share with you the gifts we made them...

As I mentioned here,  Josh has recently been learning the art of concrete making, concentrating mainly on items like table tops, bowls and planters (which I also want to post about soon). One of the gifts Josh made both of them are concrete bowls made with recycled wine bottle glass (that he crushed himself!). They look so awesome and are perfect for patio, sunroom or kitchen (third pic). He made an additional one for his mom with a lighter mixture to go inside on her coffee table (last pic).

The other two pics are of my mom's completed tealight holder that has a little bit of a story behind it. My parents had a small section of a very old olive tree that had been chopped up and discarded at a vineyard in Napa Valley. They wanted to make something of the beautiful wood as a bit of a keepsake of their trip but never found the time. My mom eventually brought the piece of wood to us and said that we could make something for ourselves since she knew Josh loves woodworking. I could sense that she was a little disheartened though as she handed over the dirty little log, so Josh and I came up with a plan to make something she would enjoy and got to work on it's transformation.

As Josh stripped and buffed away the bark were shocked at how amazingly beautiful the wood was underneath. We got our carpenter friend Nate Chesnutt ( bf of designer Jennifer Berndt) to cut craft the piece of wood into a modern tea light holder for my mom. It turned out way better than we could have ever envisioned and I can't hardly wait to see her face when she realizes where it came from.

Happy Mother's Day to all hardworking moms of the world. We appreciate you so much!

Wilco Tonight!

My friends, how was your weekend? Josh and I had a huge end-of-semester bash on Friday night for his pharmacy school class– he's officially a 4th year PharmD student! In continuing the festivities, we are going to see Josh's favorite band, Wilco, tonight at the Montgomery Performing Arts Centre!

P.S. If you're reading this and were one of the 40+ students who came to our house Friday night THANK YOU for being so respectful and not destroying our house!
