I'm Addicted...

As a graphic designer I have always appreciated good type + illustration.  This 'appreciation', however, can be a curse when you find you can't stop collecting good type + illustration pieces. Herein lies my concert poster addiction. Any band, any genera- if it's good type + illustration then I gotta have it. It's sick. I have two hanging in my house right now, and quite a few scattered in random nooks and crannies awaiting the day I finally find a home for them...

Ok, here it goes (gulp): My name is Rachel Wright, and I'm addicted to concert posters.

It's Hump Day...

I know, I know...it's just wrong. But you smiled right?

The Leather Jacket

The Leather Jacket has apparently been named the staple item this fall, and has been seen paired with everything from jeans to cocktail dresses. And not only are leather jackets hitting the runway this season but leather pants, skirts, shorts, coats and vests are going to continue to make their way in stores. Are you going to follow the Leather Trend this season? I think it's time for me to break down and get a leather jacket!

Your Labor Day Weekend

Not only does Labor day mark the end of summer, but in the U.S. it marks the beginning of the NFL and college football seasons. Bring on fall, I say. Oh, how I long for the crisp leaves, fall foliage and pumpkin carving!

I hope you all have a safe and wonderful Labor Day weekend and you return next week with a completely refreshed mind and heart. I am going to be canoeing down the Uphapee River and camping on the sandbar river banks with hubby and our two pups. It's so peaceful and quiet out there, and we usually come back with quite a few Indian relics too! Last time we went canoeing we found about 15 pieces of pottery and a few arrowheads...it's a really neat place!

Whatever you get into this weekend, I hope the down time fills your soul and inspires you.

Canoe + Tent + Smores...what more does a girl need?

(I thought this was funny and so very true...)

And Lastly, meet sis-in-law Lizzie. I heart her so very much. The lovely gentleman she is crushing is my soon to be bro-in-law Ethan Spivey.
Congratulations on the engagement you two lovebirds!

DIY: Reclaimed Wood = Window Planter!

In the few months I've been married and living with husband Josh, he has unveiled secret building skills that I didn't realize he was harboring, even after 7 years of dating. Along with the multiple things he has built for himself he recently made me a recycled flower box!

The lumber was reclaimed from an old fence that had been torn down and thrown out in a nearby neighborhood. And with a little bit of wood glue, screws, and paint, the lumber was turned into a lovely new planter box for my bare window. The whole project cost no more than $8 bucks (outdoor paint) and it was worth every penny.

The only one who wasn't happy with this project was our baby Blue. He was very quick to let me know that he was not happy with this 'project' mommy and daddy were concentrating on. Notice the pure hopelessness in his eyes to ever be able to play frisbee again...

What have you recycled and turned into loveliness lately? I would love to hear!

Quirky & Creative

Today was quite the quirky day, and to be honest its turned into a quirky night as well.  Some days just feel all around quirky. So to honor this very looong and quirky day I bring you quirky designs to inspire you and hopefully put a smile on your face. I would like to thank Dan Grillet for the quirky links. Thanks Dan! I hope you all enjoy!

In The Spotlight: Plaid!

I'll be the first to admit, the last time I wore plaid was when it graced every character on Home Improvement and I wanted to be them. Its come a long way since the 90's grunge, possibly due to the fact that it's paired with much more subtile accents. I'm convinced that the key to successful plaid is simplicity around the busy lines...

And while I'm still not completely sure that I should reupholster my vintage chair just yet, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and use it in accent pieces. I've definitely been rocking the plaid scarf lately.

Please Note: Watch out for the lumberjack look! No lady in her right mind would voluntairly try to look like a lumberjack, but be aware that if you do pair that plaid shirt + boots + jeans there will be that one guy who refers to you as Al Borland. Just warning ya.. ;)
