Her Royal Highness

Who: Mom
Where: Westminster Abbey  Bed
Time: 3:42 AM EST

This morning I was awakened by this pic on my phone. COMPLETELY made my day. At 4 AM, I don't think there's any better way to watch the royal wedding than with English Tea and a little bit of England-inspired attire.

Happy Royal Wedding day everyone! Yay for Princess Kate!

The Royal Wedding..1 day away!

youandyourwedding.co.uk
Alexander McQueen
Are you as pumped about the royal wedding as I am? WHAT a princess story. I don't think I'll be getting up at 4 am but will be DVR-ing all of the festivities. Kudos to anyone who's getting up to watch live!

I'm SO curious about which tiara the Queen will give Kate and, of course, which dress she will choose. Will it have sleeves? A huge train like Diana's? Oh, so many questions unanswered!  I personally think it's been created by a British designer; possibly Sarah Burton, creative director of Alexander McQueen, but with a lot of input from Kate of course. We'll just have to wait and see, huh?

Karma

While waiting to pay in the Subway sandwich line yesterday, the lady in front of me handed the cashier a $100 bill, to which the cashier informed her that they don't accept large bills. She tells them that she does not have her credit card on her and couldn't pay for her lunch (and then kindly proceeds to apologize to them for having to make the sandwich which I thought was SO sweet).

I felt so bad for her and didn't want to see her leave without her lunch so I quickly jumped in and told her that I would pay for it. We've all been in this situation before, right? She thanked me over and over again and offered to send me money, which I turned down. I didn't think any further (other than feeling good about helping someone out) and went on my merry way. A few short hours later I get the email below with this gift certificate from Lux Day Spa.

Hi Rachel,

Thank you so very much for what you did today at Subway.   I really appreciate it.  You are so generous and kind. Please accept this Spa Gift Certificate for your random act of kindness and my appreciation.

What random act of kindness have you done lately?

P.S. If you live in my area go to Lux Day Spa, it's run by amazingly kind individuals!

Natural Inspiration {Fiddle Leaf Fig Trees}

While on our little Easter adventure this past Sunday, we popped in Callaway's Discovery Center to find these ah-mazing and ginormous trees in the lobby (above is a pic I snapped of one of them with my phone). I was so mesmerized that, naturally, I had to figure out what type tree they were so that I could get one...

We found out that they were none other than fiddle leaf fig trees. I read that they were actually quite common in Lowe's and Home Depot, but were usually labeled incorrectly. I couldn't believe the branches, they must have been 25 ft. tall, all while coming from that tiny pot!

I made my way to Lowe's and found two for $4.95 that were labeled Tropical Houseplant:Nice as Gift, which made me giggle. I now have two much smaller versions of the impressive plants I hope they will be one day.

Callaway Gardens for Easter

Yesterday, we continued the Wright's family tradition of going to Callaway Garden's Easter sunrise service and then spending the entire day riding bikes and playing around the beautiful 14,000 acre preserve (This is also where our engagement photos were taken).

My favorite exhibit to visit is the Sibley Horticulture Center, a garden/greenhouse that encompasses five acres of native and exotic plants– it even has a 22 ft. waterfall! Hubs and I just love walking around it and get inspiration for our own little garden...

Do you celebrate Easter? What is your family tradition if so?

Keds

New York Fashion Week 2011

I don't know how to ease into this so I'm just going to hit you with it: I want Keds.

Call me crazy but I'm seeing them everywhere lately ( NY Fashion week, anyone?) and I can't help but to jump on board! Wonder if Kelly Kapowski still has hers from her Saved By The Bell days??

What do you think of the growing Keds trend? Now that I'm out of the I Like Keds Again closet I have to come clean...I'm getting a red pair!  Don't hate!

Have a happy Friday my friend!

Hail Storm

Five days ago, a hail storm made its way upon our little Auburn plains. It was so quick and so unexpected, my poor little garden barely made it. Spring storms in the south are so unpredictable this time of year...bringing in the plants every other night is really starting to get to us!

How's the weather in your area right now? I wanna know!

P.S. How cute is the garden mushroom that my gnome sits under? The hubs made it!

Yippy skippy, it's my birthday!

Today is my 27th birthday and I'm hoping for nothing more than a big 'ole piece of cake equipped with some candles. I took the pic above on my 5th birthday and I was SO excited to wear my new dress..isn't it just to die for? But what's up with that hot mess on my head??

Josh and I plan on having a fun 'lil dinner tonight to celebrate tonight. Yippee for birthdays!

Paper pastry boxes

I recently stumbled upon these A-dorable paper pastry boxes from Imeon Design. Wouldn't they make great party favor boxes for a baby shower or an Easter brunch? I could also see them as wedding favor boxes. Too cute.

Let me rephrase that: I need this + a drink in my hand + sand under my toes. Who's with me?

The legendary Charles Wright

Uncle Charlie and Aunt Tammy
Josh's uncle, Charles Wright, passed away yesterday and I just wanted to take a moment to honor his life. You would have never known what a legend you were among when talking to uncle Charlie, as we called him. From the first time I met him, about 13 years ago, he would always greet me with a big bear hug and a 'Hey girl' as he wrapped his huge arms around me. He was always the first to crack a joke on my not-so-flattering haircuts, or pick on me about the leftover dessert on my face after a Thanksgiving meal. He was always laughing and cutting up, yet always took a moment to look me in the eye and ask 'Seriously though, how are you really doing?'. After listening intensely to whatever was on your mind he would add in his little doses of wisdom so perfectly, and somehow it was exactly what you needed to hear at that moment.

It wasn't until I had known uncle Charlie for about 5 years until I learned of his legendary men's softball status. You would have never known he was one of the greatest legends whom essentially put it on the map as a cool sport to watch and play in the 70's and 80s. The 'Men Of Steel' as they were called, were created in 1979 as living, hulking billboards fore Steele's Sports Company of Grafton, Ohio, a $4.2 million softball- and - baseball - equipment manufacturer. Charles held the all-time season record of 503 homers and was featured in Time magazine and Sports Illustrated and traveled the world for Steele's Sports; Although you would have never heard any of this from uncle Charlie, he was far too humble to boast of himself and his history with the sport.

When we learned of his heart attack we were not surprised to hear that he was doing none other than what he loved to do..playing softball. It is times like these, when God calls up a soldier like Charles to join him, that makes you hug your friends and family a little longer and reminds you to always say I love you.

We love you and are going to miss you dearly uncle Charlie.

Love, Rachel

It's Friday, Friday

In the span of three weeks I've formed a habit that I thought I should fess up to. Each Friday, Josh and I have found ourselves blasting Rebecca Black's hit song Friday- a song that is so awesomely awful that you can't help but to laugh at, yet notice your mood enhancing while listening.  WARNING: It WILL be stuck in your head!

Fun... Fun... Fun :)

Spa Day!

Note: I thought about not writing this post because I don't want to make you jealous...

One of my vendors, Ellipse Inc., surprised me with a half-day spa package due to the fact that we have been working our fingers to the bone on an intense systems issue for over a year; I guess you could say it's gotten the best of all of us. I should have just stayed quiet, right??

I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday..don't hate me! :)

Citrus peels to start your seedlings

Who would have ever thunk it? Apparently any citrus peel ( including lemons!) works great as little starter containers for your baby plants. Just make sure you put a tiny hole in it for drainage. Voila!
