A Trick to Try:

thekitchn.com

I would just like to preface this by saying that my husband is seriously addicted to onions. He is truly, madly, deeply, [and disturbingly] in love with them. Like a crazed lawyer, he fights for onion's rights to be included in the otherwise onion-less recipe. It's sick. He brings evidence that I care not to fight.  A lazy wife or a loving wife? All I know is that I chop a whole hell of a lot of onions. And I'm tired of watery eyes and smelly hands....

Now- with that being said, I recently stumbled upon a site that says if you put a piece of bread in your mouth while you cut onions you won't have to deal with the onion tears. Does everyone know about this or have I been living under a rock? At any rate, I gave it a try and it turns out it really does work. Do you know how excited this makes me? (Reread above if you haven't absorbed my current onion predicament...)

On another note, I picked up one of these stainless steel bars this weekend at Crate & Barrel and it also works like a charm. It seems as if my onion issues are finally over!

Now. What kitchen tips have you been hiding?

I will have to let Hillary know. I dont have much problem cutting them b/c my contacts protect but Hillary is basically bawling by the time she gets through an onion.

  2. So glad you left a comment, so I could trace back to your lovely blog! I can tell I'm going to really enjoy it and already we have something in common...my husband loves onions as well. And his silly ongoing joke is that onions, garlic and olive oil keep our marriage strong! Oh and by the way I was just looking at your wedding photos...stunning to say the least. Your shoes, your dress, bridesmaids dresses, your husband hat and you...all gorgeous!

  4. I always buy sweet onions (supposedly the flatter they are the sweeter) and store them in the fridge, and that has solved the crying issues.
